Privacy Policy
Last updated 19 August 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Ovotone (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses and protects your personal information when you use NRRW, our sample browser for macOS, and when you visit nrrwaudio.com.
Ovotone is based in Uithoorn, the Netherlands, and is the data controller for the processing described here. You can reach us at any time at support@nrrwaudio.com.
1. The short version
- The app has no account. NRRW never asks you to sign in, and we hold no profile about you. Buying a license does create a customer account with Freemius, our payment provider, which you use to manage your license and invoices — see section 4.
- Your samples, folders, MIDI files and everything you organize in NRRW stay on your Mac. We never upload, read or index them.
- NRRW contains no analytics, telemetry, advertising identifiers or usage tracking of any kind.
- The only data NRRW ever sends is what a license activation needs, and only once you enter a license key.
- This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics.
- We send no marketing email. If we ever do, it is opt-in only — buying NRRW does not subscribe you to anything.
- We do not sell or share personal information, and we do not track you across other companies’ apps or sites.
2. What stays on your Mac
NRRW is a local application. The following is stored only in the app’s own storage on your computer, and is never transmitted to us:
- The folders you add, and the macOS security-scoped bookmarks that let NRRW reopen them.
- The library index NRRW builds from those folders — file and folder names, paths, durations, and any BPM or musical key it detects or you assign.
- Your collections, hidden and skipped items, hotkey assignments, workspaces and every setting in the app.
- Audio itself. NRRW reads your files to play and display them; it never copies or sends them anywhere.
Removing the application and its container removes this data. Nothing about your library reaches us at any point.
3. Trial and licensing data
NRRW offers a 14-day trial. Starting and running the trial requires no network connection and sends us nothing — it is tracked entirely on your own Mac.
When you activate a license, NRRW contacts our licensing and payment provider, Freemius, and sends:
- Your license key, so it can be verified.
- A device identifier — a one-way hash of your Mac’s hardware identifier. It lets a license be tied to a limited number of computers. It cannot be reversed into your hardware identifier, and it is not used for anything else.
- The name of your Mac, as set in macOS (for example “Emiel’s MacBook Pro”), so you can recognize your own devices in your license account. Mac names often contain a person’s name; if you would rather not share yours, rename your Mac in System Settings before activating.
After activation, NRRW re-checks the license with Freemius roughly once a week so that a refunded or cancelled license stops working. This check is best-effort: if your Mac is offline, NRRW keeps working normally. Deactivating a license removes it from your Mac first and then tells Freemius, so you can always move to another machine.
4. Purchases
Freemius is the merchant of record for NRRW. That means Freemius sells the license to you, and collects the information needed to complete the sale — for example your name, email address, billing country and payment details — and handles invoicing and VAT. We never receive or store your full payment details.
From a purchase we receive your order details, your email address and your license key, so we can deliver the license and help you with support. Freemius processes this data as an independent controller under Freemius’ privacy policy, and as our processor for license verification.
A purchase also creates a customer account with Freemius. You use it to see your licenses, download invoices and update your billing details, and you reach it from our support page — the panel that opens there is Freemius’ customer portal, running on Freemius’ servers. Freemius controls that account and the data in it. We can see your order and license in our vendor dashboard, but we cannot sign in to your account, and requests to change or delete the account itself have to go to Freemius.
5. This website
nrrwaudio.com is a static site hosted on Cloudflare. It sets no cookies of its own, runs no analytics or advertising, and loads no third-party scripts on its ordinary pages. The one thing it stores on your device is a single flag in your browser’s local storage, written only if you start a purchase, so the cart can show that a checkout is waiting; clearing this site’s data removes it. That flag is there to run the checkout you asked for, and nothing loads from anyone else until you act — which is why there is no cookie banner on this site. The exceptions are the three places that need our payment provider: pressing a Buy button loads the Freemius checkout, which opens over the page; the support page loads the Freemius customer portal when you open it, so you can manage your license and invoices; and the payment-update page, which we link to from an email if a payment fails, loads the checkout on arrival. In each case Freemius (and its payment processors) handle your details under their own privacy policy, and may store data such as a saved cart so your order can be recovered. Nothing is loaded from Freemius until you start a purchase or open one of those pages. Our hosting provider automatically processes basic technical request data — such as IP address, browser user agent, requested URL and timestamp — to deliver the site and protect it against abuse. Those records are short-lived, held by the provider, and are not used by us to build profiles.
6. Email
If you email us, we process your message, your email address and anything you choose to include — such as a license key, order number or screenshot — in order to answer you. We keep support correspondence for as long as it is useful to resolve and reference the request, and to keep a record of purchases and warranty claims.
A purchase produces transactional email: your receipt and your license. We also count messages about software you already own — a new version, or a change that affects how it works — as part of delivering what you bought rather than as marketing, and they are sent rarely.
Anything promotional is opt-in, without exception. We will not send you offers, newsletters or announcements about other products unless you have asked for them, and buying NRRW is not asking. If we ever offer a mailing list you would sign up for it deliberately, every message would carry a one-click unsubscribe, and leaving would never affect your license, your invoices or your support. We will never sell or rent your address to anyone.
7. What we never collect
- The contents, names or locations of your audio files, projects or folders.
- Your name, address or precise location (any billing details you give go to Freemius, not to us).
- Advertising identifiers. NRRW has none, and does no cross-app or cross-site tracking.
- Usage statistics of any kind — which samples you play, which features you use, how long you use the app.
8. Legal bases for processing (GDPR)
- Performance of a contract — delivering the software you bought, activating and verifying licenses, and providing support.
- Legitimate interests — keeping our software and website secure, and preventing license fraud and abuse.
- Legal obligation — keeping the transaction records tax law requires.
- Consent — any promotional email. You opt in first, and you can withdraw at any time.
9. Sharing and service providers
We share data only with providers that process it on our behalf, under contract, and only as far as running the business requires:
- Freemius — sales, invoicing, tax, license issuing and verification.
- Cloudflare — website hosting and delivery.
- Our email provider — support correspondence.
- A newsletter provider — only if we start sending one. It will be named here before any email is sent.
We may also disclose information where we are legally required to, or to establish or defend legal claims. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for behavioral advertising.
10. International transfers
Some of these providers are located outside the European Economic Area. Where that is the case, transfers are covered by the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or another approved safeguard.
11. Retention
We keep purchase and license records for as long as the license is valid and for as long as tax and accounting law requires — in the Netherlands, generally seven years. Support correspondence is kept for as long as it is useful. Technical request logs are short-lived and handled by our hosting provider.
12. Your rights
Most of what you might want to exercise these rights over sits with Freemius rather than with us — your customer account, your billing details and your invoices. Those requests go to Freemius under its privacy policy, and we will point you to the right place if it is easier to ask us first.
What we hold is small: the order and license details we receive from a sale, and any support correspondence. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to our processing of that information, and to receive a copy in a portable format. Email support@nrrwaudio.com and we will respond within one month.
You can object to direct marketing at any time and we must stop — use the unsubscribe link, or just tell us. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time, which does not affect anything done before you withdrew.
If you are in the EEA and believe we have handled your data improperly, you may lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority; in the Netherlands this is the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens. We do not sell or share personal information, including as those terms are defined by California’s CCPA/CPRA.
13. Children
NRRW is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16; if you believe we have, contact us and we will delete it.
14. Security
We keep the data we hold to a minimum, use reputable providers, and rely on encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) for everything transmitted between your Mac, our website and our providers. License and trial records stay on your Mac, held by the app itself. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
15. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may revise this Privacy Policy from time to time. The current version is always posted at nrrwaudio.com/privacy-policy. If a revision is material, we will notify you through the software, this website or other appropriate means.
16. Contact us
